We stumbled across Alowyn Gardens after a quick google of “things to see and do in the Yarra Valley” and were so glad we did. It is such a beautiful space and the perfect place to unwind and indulge in nature without the hustle and bustle of city life.
Situated on 4 acres of land, Alowyn Gardens features lots of nooks and crannies to explore and an abundance of beautiful greenery. Upon entering, there’s a quaint little cafe to have a coffee and cake before you start on your adventure. Before you head in to the gardens, you can visit the nursery featuring beautiful plants for sale and a giant Chessboard game which could keep you entertained for some time.
The garden itself is divided in to several distinct areas including the Perennial Border Garden, the Dry Garden, the Edible Garden, the Forest Garden, the Parterre Garden, a French-style garden and the Display Gardens. The standout is the stunning 100m wisteria and rose-covered arbor speckled with Autumn colours and a classical fountain as a centrepiece. This is the perfect spot for taking photos and walking through it is very peaceful.
Staff are very friendly and will go out of their way to talk to you which is refreshing. There’s plenty of shade available and toilets when you first enter. Alowyn Gardens is also a popular spot for weddings and functions (for obvious reasons) and they also offer catering as well.
Alowyn Gardens is a beautiful garden in a tranquil setting. It is a must-do when exploring the Yarra Valley but would be worth the trip out just to visit on its own as well. We look forward to returning in the summer and seeing the change of colours.
