Animal Land Children’s Farm

There are a few different children’s farms scattered around Melbourne, but Animal Land Children’s Farm offers a unique experience unlike the rest.

Situated about 40minutes from the CBD in Digger’s Rest, Animal Land is situated on a lovely country lot featuring plenty of greenery, hay bails, a big pond and of course adorable farm animals.

The children’s farm is unique in the aspect that they only offer daily tours (no open access), which allows for a more peaceful and interactive day out. For our tour, we had about 12 people including children, which made it a much more personal experience and the kids got to take their time with each activity. Each tour runs for two hours and is jam packed full of hands on fun that will have the kids squealing with delight. Activities included milking a cow, pony rides, tractor rides, feeding the animals, nursing the baby animals, catching the chickens and collecting their eggs and feeding the ducks.

The farm is family owned and run and aims to give children (and even adults) a real insight in to how a working farm is run. It’s well-kept with plenty of animals from sheep to even an alpaca and you can tell they are well cared by looking at them. The staff were friendly and our young tour guide Amelia was very patient with the children and happy to answer their one hundred questions.

We would recommend wearing suitable clothing and gumboots as you are bound to get dirty and watch out for the animal poo! The farm also has a cafe with a small amount of food and coffee available but we would suggest to pack some snacks or even a picnic to really make the most of the countryside. There is also a playground for the kids to have a play on while waiting for your tour to start or while other kids are having a pony ride.

Overall, Animal Land Children’s Farm is one of the best in Melbourne and an affordable day out for the kids. It allows them to experience nature whilst also learning the backbone of how a farm is run. The children spent the duration of the tour giggling at the animals and constantly entertained by the number of activities. The farm also offer birthday parties with plenty of space available and they also offer accommodation that has received fantastic reviews.

You can book online to save 10% although they have not yet updated their winter tour times as they only provide one tour daily during the weekdays over winter so call them to book and get your discount.

Definitely a must visit.
