The Queen Victoria Markets are renowned in Melbourne as a great day out for shopping and eating but it is the hidden gems amongst the markets that often people don’t know about it but wish they had.
One of those gems is The Borek Shop.
When walking around the market you will notice nearly every second person scoffing down this delightful looking doughy goodness and instantly want to know where it is from.
Hidden away in the deli section amongst the bakery items and cheeses, from the outside you wouldn’t know this small space held the most delicious filled boreks. However, what gives this place away is the queues of people lining up to get their hands on one for lunch.
The boreks are made fresh on site and there are three different flavours available, cheese & spinach, spicy lamb and spicy potato.
A borek could be described as similar to a panini Turkish like bread that is super soft and melts in your mouth. We opted for the cheese & spinach and the spicy lamb and both were full of flavour.
For $3.50, it’s easy to see why these are so popular as they are super affordable and taste delicious. At that price you could be excused for having two!
Despite the crowds, the ladies move quickly and the boreks fly out the window so you won’t be waiting long.
Don’t get stuck at the food court at the market. Go exploring and find those little gems hidden away but producing the best food at a fraction of the price!
