Melbourne, get ready to turn up the heat!
Core + Port Melbourne launched their brand new studio last month with a range of group fitness classes that will make that booty BURN and tone those abs within weeks.
With classes like hot Pilates, hot yoga and reformer Pilates on offer, you will leave the studio living the statement of a true hot mess and it will be totally worth it.
The chic studio is located in the bustling Bay Street just five minutes walk from the beach and surrounded by trendy cafes. It features the perfect Instagram neon sign upon entry (have you even been if you don’t have a photo?!) and a gorgeous modern set-up.
We popped in last weekend to try out one of the popular hot Pilates classes and what a unique experience. Armed with a water bottle, towel, and two dumbbells we entered the room not knowing exactly what to expect but with the assistance of the lovely instructor Fran, we were immediately put at ease.
So what exactly is hot Pilates? Essentially as it sounds, the class consists of Pilates in a thermos-controlled room. The addition of heat assists the body by warming up the muscles making them easier to stretch whilst also increasing the heart rate and detoxifying your body through sweat.
At first the room was a comfortable temperature and as the class went on, it started to get warmer and in turn, harder. The 55 minute class consisted of breathing techniques, core strengthening exercises, resistance work with weights and cardio intervals.
Although considered a low-impact strengthening style of exercise, the heat really adds a different element to hot Pilates intensifying every move you make which allows you to really feel your body toning immediately. The heat also increases your heart rate which helps to burn more calories, and the increased sweating really gets deep in to your pores, detoxifying your body as you strengthen.
There is absolutely no pressure and you can go at your own pace with the exercises as you build up the resistance to the heat. The instructors are supportive, knowledgeable and passionate about what they do and will assist you throughout the class if you feel you need another option.
We left the class feeling re-energised and with a new sense of flexibility and strength. It’s like when you leave a sauna or steam room feeling brand new again after a good detox but with a better booty.
We can’t wait to head back and try out the reformer Pilates classes to see what all the rage is about. Core + offer a range of membership options as well as casual passes. Make sure you bring a big bottle of water and a towel.
Will we see you there?
