Oh what a little gem this café in Fairfield is.
We stumbled upon Fifteen Pounds last weekend when we travelled to the Yarra Bend Adventure Mini Golf course. We were feeling rather hungry after an hour of intense putting and after a quick Google of local cafes, we opted for this one and we were so glad we did.
The rustic exterior of this quaint little café makes it inviting before you step in the doors. The wooden tables outside the front are the perfect spot to stop and have a coffee in the sunshine and a great place to park your dogs.
The interior is just as inviting with lots of space on offer and a gorgeous little bench seat looking out to the road. We were tempted to sit there for brunch but it would be the best spot for coffee and people watching.
We were seen to straight away by the manager and he was very friendly, especially with the kids. We were seated in the beautiful little covered area on the way out to the courtyard and water was dropped to our table immediately (good job team!).
We loved the rustic wooden tables and we had bench seats sitting underneath cute little terracotta pot plants. The sun was shining through and we could see the chefs working away in the kitchen. The courtyard is also a gorgeous spot for brunch, filled with luscious greenery and the perfect on a summer’s day.
The menu is creative and enticing and our orders were taken promptly. We opted for the Hash Stack ($17.50) , the Avo & Broccoli smash and the kid’s porridge.
There was a bit of a wait on the food and the café wasn’t that busy but when it did arrive, it made up for it. All dishes were presented beautifully and we were pleased to see they put the same amount of effort in to presenting the children’s menu just as nicely as the mains. The porridge was demolished in minutes. The hash stack was a standout dish because of those slow-roasted mushrooms. They were unbelievably delicious and we could have just had a bowl of them! The homemade hash brown was also yummy.
The avo and broccoli was also delicious and the perfect ratio of ingredients. The eggs were poached perfectly and the portion size was just right.
We left Fifteen Pounds feeling very satisfied with our experience. The meals were 10/10 and the service was also great as was the atmosphere. The only slight let-down was the wait on meals but again, the food was worth the wait.
We can’t wait to find an excuse to make our way over to the lovely suburb of Fairfield again and try out the rest of the menu!
