Coffee & Play // Little Growling Cafe
Melbourne is known for its wonderful cafe culture but most people tend to head to the city or nearby for their brunch rather than looking to their local suburbs.
It is great to see awesome cafes popping up in the burbs nowadays giving the CBD a run for their money when it comes to good coffee and great food.
One of those cafes and a reasonably newcomer to the area of Tarneit is Little Growling Cafe.
Situated beside the sales and information centre for the new estate, The Grove, Little Growling Cafe is the perfect spot for a coffee and a bite to eat.
What is even more enticing is that this cafe boasts a really great playground outside that the kids will love and where you can watch them from the peace and quiet of your seat!
It’s becoming harder and harder these days to find a place where you can have a coffee whilst being able to entertain the kids because lets face it, taking your child out for lunch is almost a nightmare because they can’t sit still.
The playground here is surrounded by fences and lots of grassland so you can feel safe watching them play from the outdoor area of the cafe. If you’re not comfortable with that, grab a takeaway coffee and sit outside with them on the park benches. There is plenty for them to enjoy including a flying fox, trampolines, a giant slide, climbing rope, a teacup spinner and a swing. If they tire of that then there’s plenty of lush grassland for them to run around in and you could even bring a ball to kick around.
The cafe is run but the owner and you can tell he takes pride in the place, which is lovely to see. The cafe interior is bright and very clean and the bursts of sunshine coming through the windows gives it a real warmth. It is not a big space so on a busy day you might be hard pressed to find a seat but they do offer a little covered outdoor area overlooking the playground as well.
We ordered an almond milk cappuccino and a babycino that was complimentary with a coffee! Bonus. The coffee was smooth and the almond milk was delicious.
We also couldn’t look past the fresh blueberry muffins made in house (another big tick for these guys!) and it was devoured within minutes. It is always a huge pull for any cafe when they’re baked goods are made on site because fresh is always best.
They do offer a small lunch menu with things on offer like toasted sandwiches, burgers and brioche which all looked delicious and prices were very affordable. Don’t go here expecting a fully cooked brunch but you will get great food.
We think this cafe would be a welcome addition to the area and a huge draw-card for families or mums needing five minutes to themselves whilst their children burn some energy. If you don’t have kids but love great coffee, then make sure you pop past and grab a takeaway on your way to work.
We look forward to returning and trying more from the menu and another one of those freshly baked muffins.
